The class was a great way to introduce students to PHP and MySQL. Students completing the course will have a basic understanding of using development tools to
I would have liked the course to be a little more detailed and a little more advanced with respect to PHP itself. The MySQL portion was essential and very informative, but it seemed to come at the expense of more advanced PHP scripting. As was noted in class, there was a whole section on AJAX that was not implemented, which was disappointing. It felt like there was an overreliance on the book, and the lecture didn't suppliment--it was mostly overlap. I would have hoped that lectures would have been more theory and application which expanded on the book's teaching of procedure and how-to.
Also, I know I wasn't the only one who had problems getting their connections to their MySQL database to work. I think that having 45-30 minutes of open lab time at the end of the session before working on MySQL to endure that everyone has a sable and reliable connection to their MySQL database would have been helpful; having it during an actual lecture seemed like it was something that not only held up the lecture for people who had their connections working, but made people who didnt have their connections working panic and made them miss on the coding instruction, as Dreamweaver required a MySQL connection to begin coding propetly.
